What’s the History Behind Checkers?
The game of checkers, also known as draughts in many parts of the world, has a rich history that can be traced back thousands of years. While the exact origins remain murky, early variants of the game have been found in ancient civilizations, including Egypt and Mesopotamia. The modern version we know and love today gained popularity in the 12th century in France before it spread to other European countries and eventually the United States.
This enduring game has stood the test of time, evolving into various versions and adaptations but keeping its core mechanics intact. The premise is simple: outsmart your opponent by jumping over their pieces and reaching the back row to crown your piece as a king. It’s a delightful mixture of luck and strategy, making it a favorite pastime for families and friends alike.
