This policy explains what information Holiday List (“we”, “us”) collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Holiday List is operated by the Holiday List Team. Questions about privacy can be sent through our Contact page.
Information we collect
Information you give us.
- If you suggest an event through our form: the event details, and your name and email address if you choose to provide them.
- If you tick the newsletter box on that form: your email address.
- If you contact us through our form: your name, email address, the topic you choose, an optional page link and whatever you write.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, our servers record your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view, the page that referred you and the date and time. When you send us a message through our form, we also keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address for up to an hour to limit spam; it cannot be used to identify you.
How we use information
- To review and publish events you suggest. If you give your name with a suggestion, we may show it on the published page as the person who suggested it. We never publish your email address.
- To send occasional updates about the site, only if you ticked the newsletter box.
- To reply to your messages.
- To keep the site secure, block spam and understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use essential cookies that keep the site working and secure. We also use analytics cookies to measure traffic. Our event suggestion and contact forms use Google reCAPTCHA, which collects device and browser information to tell people from bots. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although some features may stop working.
Services we use
- Hosting: Our data center stores the site and its server logs.
- Google reCAPTCHA: protects our forms from spam. Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.
- Google Analytics: measures traffic. Learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- OpenAI: we use OpenAI’s tools to draft article text and images from the name and date of an observance. We do not send any visitor information to OpenAI.
Newsletter
The newsletter is opt-in only. We never add you to a list unless you tick the box, and every email will include an unsubscribe link.
How long we keep information
- Event suggestions and messages: for as long as we need them to review or reply, and for a published suggestion, as long as the page exists. You can ask us to delete yours at any time.
- Newsletter email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Server logs and analytics data: for 12 months, then deleted or anonymized.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, including Canada, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and California, you may have the right to see, correct, delete or take a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to withdraw consent (for example by unsubscribing), and to object to certain uses. Use our Contact page and choose “A privacy request”, and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to your local privacy regulator, such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
Holiday List is a family-friendly site, but it is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Our event form is for adults. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us, and we will delete it.
Security and international transfers
We use reasonable safeguards, including HTTPS and spam protection, but no method of storing or transmitting data is completely secure. Our service providers may process information in other countries, including the United States, so your information may be transferred outside the country where you live.

Our pages sometimes link to other websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the latest version, and we will note significant changes on this page.
